Excalibur celebrates strongest-ever Post-16 performance and continued improvement

Excalibur Academies Trust is celebrating a strong set of A-Level and vocational results across much of its Post-16 provision, with schools recording significant improvements in student performance and continued progress in provisional measures.

The results reflect the hard work, ambition and resilience of students, alongside the commitment of teachers and sixth-form teams to providing high-quality, personalised support and preparing young people for successful next steps.

The Wren, Reading

At The Wren, this year’s A-Level and vocational results mark the school’s strongest Post-16 performance to date, continuing a clear three-year trajectory of improvement. Results across Level 3 qualifications have improved significantly, including a 10% increase in the proportion of students securing A–C grades*, while the number of A–A grades has doubled*.

Beyond headline grades, one of the most encouraging aspects of this year’s results is student progression. The vast majority of Wren Six’s leavers have successfully secured their chosen next steps, progressing to higher education degree programmes, selective universities, competitive higher apprenticeships and employment.

John Salberg, Principal of The Wren comments: “These results represent our best-ever Post-16 outcomes and reflect steady, sustained year-on-year progress. By closing performance gaps and aligning our outcomes with national standards, we are ensuring that young people in our community receive the quality Post-16 education they deserve. Our leavers step out today fully equipped to thrive at university, in apprenticeships and across their communities. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved.”

Ashton Park School, Bristol

At Ashton Park, students are celebrating another year of strong sixth-form outcomes, with the vast majority securing their preferred next steps. 11 students achieved outstanding value-added scores, supporting progression to a range of exciting destinations, including the University of Minnesota and Bristol Rovers Community Trust/Foundation.

Ashton Sixth welcomes students from a wide range of backgrounds and starting points and prides itself on providing an inclusive, supportive sixth-form experience.

Vocational outcomes were particularly strong, with BTEC qualifications achieving a 100% pass rate, and a large proportion of students securing Distinction or Distinction* grades.

Richard Uffendell, Headteacher of Ashton Park School comments: “I am immensely proud and delighted to celebrate the achievements of our sixth formers receiving their Post-16 outcomes today. We believe in educating the whole child, nurturing not only academic success but also personal growth, resilience and ambition. Every student, regardless of their starting point, is given the opportunity to thrive, and it is a joy to see them leave us equipped for their chosen next steps.”

Redland Green School, Bristol

Redland Green School is also celebrating exceptional academic achievement, with its provisional value-added score for academic qualifications expected to place the school significantly above the national standard when the Department for Education’s IDSR is published.

Among the notable achievements, 38 students achieved all A or A grades*, including 12 students achieving all A or equivalent grades*. In addition, 50 students achieved an average grade of A or above, highlighting the strength and consistency of academic performance across the cohort.

These results demonstrate the high aspirations of students and staff and the school’s continued focus on academic excellence and successful progression.

St John’s, Marlborough

At St John’s Marlborough, 36 students achieved an average grade of A or better, representing a strong set of academic outcomes.

Particular strengths were seen across a broad range of subjects, including Business Studies, Economics, Religious Studies, Sports Studies, Mathematics and French.

The results reflect the dedication of students and staff and the school’s commitment to ensuring that students are supported to achieve ambitious outcomes across a diverse Post-16 curriculum.

Celebrating students and looking ahead

Jason Tudor, Director of Secondary Education at Excalibur Academies Trust concludes: “Across Excalibur, this year’s results demonstrate the continued progress being made across our Post-16 provision. Improved provisional progress measures, stronger attainment and successful student destinations reflect the impact of sustained work to raise standards and provide students with the support, challenge and opportunities they need to succeed.”

“While results day is an important moment to celebrate academic achievement, Excalibur is equally proud of the many different destinations secured by its Year 13 students. Whether progressing to university, higher apprenticeships, employment or other specialist pathways, students are leaving their schools with the knowledge, skills and confidence to take their next steps.”
