Paid Internships for Undergraduates
If you’re an undergraduate or Master’s student thinking about a career in teaching, the Excalibur Teaching Internship at St John’s Marlborough, Ashton Park School, Redland Green School or Fairfield High School is a fantastic way to see what it’s really like — and get paid while you do it.
What is a Teaching Internship?
Funded by the DfE, a Teaching Internship* is a great way to gain real-life teaching experience within an Ofsted Good rated school, prior to committing to teacher training. You can find out more about the programme and about other internship providers on the Get into Teaching website The internship will last for three weeks commencing Monday 15th June – Friday 3rd July 2026 and you will be paid £455 per week.

What will you experience?
Whilst on your Teaching Internship, you may experience opportunities such as:
- Structured professional development sessions on subjects such as behaviour management, safeguarding etc
- Job shadowing and lesson observations
- Supporting struggling pupils
- Running departmental or school projects
- Helping out with whole school events, e.g. Year 7 Open Day, Sports Day etc
- Setting up and helping with experiments or lab work
- Teaching a lesson

Eligibility
We’re looking for undergraduates in their second, third or final year, or a Master’s student. Unfortunately, first year students are not eligible to apply for our June 2026 Teaching Internship programme. However, please email [email protected] to register your interest for next year’s Teaching Internship programme.
You’ll need:
- To be studying for a degree that is relevant to Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Computer Science, Design & Technology or Languages, or an appropriate Master’s degree
- A good A-Level in one of the subjects above
- A strong academic background
- A genuine interest in working with young people and teaching as a career
