Ashton Park’s Arts Trail welcomes almost 500 through its doors & students shine at Boccia

Ashton Park School welcomed almost 500 people for the South Bristol Arts Trail including a large number of prospective families. It also welcomed many neighbours living in the surrounding roads who, as well as enjoying the art work, engaged in conversation with current families and staff. The atmosphere was lovely, with plenty of positive comments about how much work had gone into the set up.

The community were able to enjoy the exceptional standard of art work including Photography and Textiles from Ashton Park’s GCSE and A level students past and present, which was representative of the school community. A large body of the work was also attributed to students with SEND and those on Pupil Premium, which reflected and celebrated the diversity of the school’s cohort. In addition, the event showcased Ashton Park’s talented staff, with art pieces by Ruth Johnstone and the new animation ‘Toby the Crow’ written by Kirris Riviere (Joel).

A huge thank you goes to Ruth, the Visual Arts team (Sam, Rebecca, Andrea and Anita), Joel and the Parent Hub for volunteering their time to set up, take down and be around to welcome the community into Ashton Park in what was an excellent way for the school to reinforce its vision of being THE family community school in the South West.

In other news, Year 7 students showed their best competitive selves whilst trying Boccia for the first time. Introduced in 1984 by as a Paralympic sport, Boccia is “a precision ball sport, similar to bocce, and related to bowls and pétanque. The name “boccia” is derived from the Latin word for “boss”.

Needless to say, the winning team certainly ‘bossed’ this game and have won tickets to see Bristol City take on Cardiff City at Ashton Gate this Sunday! Thank you to the Robins Foundation for donating the tickets so our winners can enjoy a well deserved treat.
