The King’s Coronation was celebrated with grandeur and creativity throughout the Trust. See below some magnificent examples (with a photo gallery running along the bottom of the page showing many more photos).
ST KATHARINE’S PRIMARY SCHOOL
On Friday 5th May the children at St Katharine’s Primary school staged a mock Coronation at St Katharine’s Church. With the help of the Vicar, the Reverend Michael McHugh, the school held a walk and talk through the various stages of the service. The Year 6 children talked everyone through each of the elements that would be seen during the real Coronation, and took various key roles, namely the King, Queen and Archbishop.
Everyone came dressed for a wedding, including the parent congregation. There were knights, princesses, army captains, Brownies, Guides and Cubs in our midst and quite a few fascinating fascinators!
It was a joyful occasion. Everyone came back to school for coffee and Coronation themed cakes, kindly made by members of the school’s PTA committee.
A picnic was enjoyed – street party style, lunch, more cake and a ‘best in show’ crown parade. It was a great end to a very busy week!

BURBAGE PRIMARY SCHOOL
At Burbage Primary School, it used the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla as a means of looking forward after the jubilee celebrations which focused on the history of Queen Elizabeth’s life. As King Charles is known for looking ahead and has an interest in conservation, the school decided to plant an Oak tree which it hopes will one day be strong and mighty in the school grounds for future generations to enjoy. This will be registered as part of the Queen’s canopy, putting Burbage on the map!
In addition to this, the children buried a time capsule with items carefully chosen by each class to represent 2023! Parents and families were welcomed to celebrate the Coronation with singing and dancing from the children along with the ceremonious burying of the time capsule and planting of the tree by the school council. They were then invited into the hall for the most special moment, the unveiling of a beautiful mosaic that every child at school made in collaboration with local artist Sofie Baker (see above).
The mosaic commemorates this historical event and has been installed in the school hall for future generations to enjoy. Every child in school contributed to the artwork and at the end, asked to place a special unique sparkly stone which represented their special place both in the mosaic but also valuing them as an individual in the school. Burbage is very grateful to its fabulous PTA who funded this project for the children, allowing them to learn a new skill and experience beyond the curriculum.

GREAT BEDWYN C OF E SCHOOL
The weekend’s celebration started on the Friday with a very successful garden party at Great Bedwyn School. The children looked amazing in their united colours and some dressed as the Royal Family. They gathered in the hall to talk about the momentous celebration happening the next day, a first for many, and to sing the National Anthem. What a lovely surprise to hear them sing with such gusto, and not rehearsed! The afternoon was spent together at the Bedwyn Garden party followed by royal games. What a lovely day!
