Redland Green shines in National School Chess Championships

Redland Green School’s Senior and Junior Chess Teams took part in the National School Chess Championships in April, in King Edward’s School in Birmingham.

This Team Chess Challenge is a prestigious tournament open to all secondary schools, requiring teams of four students. Redland Green participated in the regional qualifying round (South West region) along with two other schools. There were four rounds of quick-play chess with a time control of 10 minutes plus 3 seconds per move on the boards, with clocks in the preliminary rounds.

The Redland Green teams did themselves proud, playing well and trying their best, despite not coming away with any of the big prizes. They won their fair share of games though, against a predominantly independent and grammar school dominated event.
