May Park Primary School hosts heartwarming Community Iftar

May Park Primary School held its second annual Community Iftar ‘Round the World’, bringing together families, friends and the local community to break the fast during the holy month of Ramadan. The event, attended by an impressive 600 people, aimed to promote community cohesion, cultural understanding and inclusivity, welcoming people from all faiths and backgrounds.

Guests gathered at sunset to share a delicious, communal meal. Leaders from the six main Religious Faiths attended and spoke during the gathering, plus Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Andrew Varney, reflecting the school’s commitment to interfaith dialogue and mutual respect.

Ramadan, which began on 17th February and continues until 19th March, is a period of self-reflection, personal growth and charitable acts for Muslims around the world, culminating in the festive Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

Mrs Tovey, Principal of May Park Primary School comments: “This was a wonderful event bringing together people of diverse faiths. It was inspiring to see everyone sharing in the joy of Ramadan. A big thank you to all those involved in organising this celebration, especially the staff and community members who prepared food for 600 people, which was a remarkable feat.”

May Park’s Community Iftar was celebrated not just as a religious observance, but as a celebration of unity, understanding and friendship in the heart of the school community.

The school would like to extend its sincere thanks to the following businesses for their generous sponsorship and support in making the evening such a success: Pak Butchers, Rajas Wholesale, Maeme’s Piri Piri – Church Road, Lilian Café, Sweet Mart, Rajanis, Kaspers (Fishponds Road and Gloucester Road), IC2 Security, Lilly Cakes, Bristol Associates, SSA Foods, McDonald’s (Fishponds Road), Elite Poultry, GoFastPrint and Herbert’s Bakery.
