Burbage Primary bucks trend as pupil numbers climb steadily & Ofsted delivers exceptional report

Burbage Primary School is celebrating an impressively strong Ofsted report, achieving a ‘Strong Standard’ judgement across all categories under the new framework. The whole school community has played a vital role in this success, reflecting a culture that is deeply invested in and proud of its achievements.

Ofsted found that students were “polite, respectful and eager to learn” and that “staff manage behaviour consistently well. They model respectful relationships and maintain high expectations”. Effective relationships with parents and carers at Burbage were also praised, with the report noting that these “play an important part in children’s success”. The school’s ‘Kindness Crew’ is yet another example of how such positive behaviours help everyone feel included.

Six years ago, Burbage bore little resemblance to the thriving community it is today. With half the pupil numbers, the school faced significant challenges. Today, however, it is a happy and united team, with a shared commitment to going the extra mile for all pupils whatever their starting point.

Furthermore, Ofsted noted that “well-sequenced routines, high expectations and responsive teaching” support children’s communication, physical development and early social skills, helping to ensure a smooth transition from the on-site pre-school through to fellow Excalibur secondary school, St John’s Marlborough.

Zoe Garbutt, Principal at Burbage Primary School comments: “The success of this Ofsted report is down to our whole school community, whose enthusiasm and proactiveness help make Burbage the happy and nurturing place it is. Collectively, we encourage children to believe in their dreams and to always aim high through offering a plethora of experiences and opportunities, all planned with intent and purpose.”

Claire Mirams, Director of Primary Improvement at Excalibur Academies Trust adds: “This is an excellent and well-deserved report. The renewed inspection framework is a demanding and exacting one. To achieve strong grades in every area is a remarkable achievement, and testament to the dedication of the team at Burbage.”
