Danny Kruger MP takes time out of his day to visit Burbage

Burbage Primary School was treated to a visit from Danny Kruger MP for the Devizes Constituency, who led an assembly (including being put under the spotlight with children’s questions & answers), inviting pupils on a special trip to the Houses of Parliament plus discussions of a more serious matter surrounding funding with the Principal and Head of Governors.

The morning started with Danny explaining his role and that of Parliaments to the whole school community, in addition to the process of MPs listening to the views of people before representing these to those in power. It would appear, however, that the children were already rather knowledgeable with politics, naming the three Prime Ministers in the past year with ease!

Danny was impressed by the intelligent and thought-provoking answers given when the young people were asked about issues important to them including money/bills, petrol price, the environment and littering.

Roles were then reversed as children enthusiastically put up their hands to pose questions of importance to Danny. Many centred around the environment, with climate change, pollution and deforestation being top contenders. Danny shared their concerns, explaining the UK’s position and proactivity on a national and global scale.

Zoe Garbutt, Principal at Burbage Primary School comments: “We were delighted to welcome Danny Kruger back to the Burbage family when the last time he visited, the majority of children were several inches shorter! Understandably there was a lot of excitement about the announcement of the visit to the Houses of Parliament which rounded the assembly off perfectly.

“Thank you to Danny also for his time with myself and the Governors discussing issues all too common in schools across the country surrounding the fuel crisis, budgets and SEND allocation.”
