Easton Royal Academy has been awarded the ‘Music Mark’ award in recognition of its outstanding commitment to providing high-quality music education for all students. The award, given by the UK Association for Music Education, celebrates the school’s exceptional dedication to ensuring that every child has access to rich and diverse musical experiences.
At the heart of Easton Royal Academy’s music curriculum is a weekly one-hour lesson for every child, ensuring that music education is a core part of school life. In addition, all children in Years 3 and 4 benefit from two years of free trumpet lessons, giving them a unique opportunity to learn an instrument and develop skill in reading staff notation.

The school’s commitment to live music is equally impressive. Over the past academic year, students have been treated to inspiring performances, including a live beatboxing workshop from BeatTechnique and an unforgettable folk music performance by Filkin’s Drift. This emphasis on live music ensures that children not only learn about music in the classroom but also experience its vibrancy and diversity firsthand.
“For us, offering a quality music education fits in so well with our school vision of ‘Excellence & Adventure’ because it is about both aspiration and about stepping out of your comfort zone into the exciting and unknown,” said Principal, Beck Stubbs, “Our goal is to give every child the chance to experience the joy of music, and the self-confidence and learning awareness that comes with making progress on an instrument.”
In addition to its rich curriculum offerings, Easton Royal Academy boasts a thriving choir and a popular Djembe drumming group, both of which provide students with additional opportunities to explore different styles of music. Daily singing is an integral part of the school’s routine, fostering a strong sense of community and fun. Furthermore, students are encouraged to pursue individual musical interests through 1:1 music lessons in guitar, brass, piano, woodwind, and vocals.
The ‘Music Mark’ award is a testament to the school’s vibrant musical culture, and the recognition only strengthens the academy’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians.
