Oare’s immersive ‘We’ll meet again’ WWII experience

Year 5 and 6 students from Oare Primary School went on a special trip to ‘We’ll Meet Again’ at the Steam Museum; an immersive, unique wartime experience. Unsurprisingly, this proved incredibly powerful in helping to bring the children’s history learning alive, and was reinforced by a visit from Eric and Margaret (pictured), who shared their memories of World War II and answer the many questions the children had prepared.

This was a wonderful opportunity for intergenerational learning. The children were particularly interested to learn about doodlebugs and the fear they caused when heard throughout the city. They were also thoroughly disgusted – and in shock in equal measure – at Margaret’s report of her beloved pet rabbit ‘Snowy’ being used to make ‘a delicious stew’ (she wasn’t aware it was Snowy until afterwards)…
