Children’s author, poet and songwriter John Dougherty visited Liden Academy to share some of his books and discuss his inspiration for writing (as well as singing some catchy theme songs for his books). With Reception children through to Year 2, he read ‘There’s a Pig up my Nose’ which was enjoyed by all. This fantastical, yet pragmatic book tells the story of a girl who has a pig stuck up her nose, and involves her whole class helping her find a way to get the pig out!
With children in Key Stage 2, John read sections of the ‘Stinkbomb and Ketchup-Face’ book series; these tell the tale of these two heroes taking off on humorous, highly dangerous and nail-biting adventures, with John only adding to the hilarity of the tales in his deliverance to the children!
John even shared his latest book ‘The Hare-Shaped Hole’ which is a beautiful, touching and poignant picture book about friendship, grief and mourning.
Jeff Mason, Principal at Liden Primary School comments: “The Liden community was delighted to welcome John, who demonstrated his passion and impressive talent in writing and engaging with the young people. Both the children and adults came away feeling very inspired by John’s thoughts on writing and reading for pleasure.”
