May Park Primary’s skateboarding creations turned into a reality

May Park Primary School is delighted to be home to its very own skatepark; the features of which have been designed by the children themselves, and previously featured as a pop up at Cabot Circus car park. This marks the final stage of a two year project with Campus Skateboarding (and supported by Skateboard UK and Subway restaurants)… not to mention a huge amount of inspiration by the May Park enthusiasts who have had their vision turned into a reality.

James Almond, Vice Principal at May Park Primary School explains how the project came to light: “Our children were keen to start an after school skateboarding club and, following a visit to an inspirational Swedish school who had embraced skateboarding, Campus was keen to be instrumental in this. You could say a match made in heaven!

“What followed next was a period of consultation with our parents and school leaders which was all extremely positive, including a suitable area located within the school grounds. Once funding was secured, our young skaters’ passion shone through as they designed their very own skatepark features.”

Nick Lewis, CEO of Excalibur Academies Trust agrees that the skatepark has added a huge amount of value: “What an amazing project. Such a powerful story about businesses, creatives and children working together to improve the world.”

Launched at a pop up event, the equipment has now been transported and installed at May Park Primary School for the children to enjoy on a permanent basis.

James Almond concludes: “We are incredibly proud of our skateboarding club and the talented young people who are part of it, who now have the pleasure of skating on their own creations.”
