Ogbourne welcomes Kaya Drumming to work with all of the school community

Ogbourne CofE Primary School was lucky to secure a grant from Wiltshire Music to fund a musical activity in school. As a result, it was delighted to welcome Alex from Kaya Drumming into school with his huge collection of hand drums and percussion. Each class had an engaging session where they explored making and following rhythms, layering rhythms, starting and stopping music and adding song and dance to rhythm. In these class sessions, children were able to take turns on different instruments and explore each sound.

Drumming and these rhythms and instruments form an important part of many cultures of the world, so this musical day enriched our learning on the different parts of the world the school has been focusing on.

The school also enjoyed welcoming parents and carers for the drumming circle at the end of the day. This was not a concert – but a chance to join in and give something new a go with all the children. No one was left empty handed – drums, bells, shakers or boomwackers a plenty! It was an impressive sound! Ogbourne is very grateful to Wiltshire Music for enabling this wonderful musical day to take place in its school.
