Successful year with ‘Books for Burbage’ & Sporting Triumphs

This year, Burbage has been working on a project called ‘Books for Burbage’, in an effort to increase reading for pleasure across the school. It is blessed to have a library, but many of the books were outdated, tired and were not as enticing as they should be. With the support of the amazing PTA and Academy Board, it has invested hugely in a revamp of its library which will be completed over the summer. It listened to its children, who told the school that they enjoy reading in quiet cosy homely places, on the floor or on comfy beanbags and sofas. It can’t wait for its ‘big reveal’ in September!

In the meantime, each year group has 40 of the very best books for their year group which are accessible by their classroom. It has been wonderful to hear Burbage children’s excitement, sharing their recommendations and talking about books whenever there is a spare moment. Monty, the much loved school dog, has been cosying up with children to hear them read!

Here they are collecting the new books from The White Horse Bookshop and our PTA chairperson Ellie Conway.

In other news, Burbage has been thrilled with its sporting achievements this year. Its Year 5 Orienteering team won at the County Finals held at Dauntsey’s School, with its superb team coming five minutes quicker than its next competitors! The school’s Year 3 / 4 football team were triumphant at the recent tournament held at Marlborough St Mary’s. However lovely a win is, the school always has a strong focus on giving everyone an opportunity to take part in festivals and tournaments.
