We have pleasure in sharing the different and creative ways our schools have gone about celebrating World Book Day; below features some fabulous photos from Cabot Primary, Fairfield High School, Great Bedwyn C of E School, Lambourn Primary, May Park Primary, Oare Primary and Ogbourne Primary (please click on the photos and scroll through).
FAIRFIELD HIGH SCHOOL
Fairfield celebrated World Book Day with a number of events and competitions. The most prominent was a door dressing competition demonstrating much creative flair and love for books. Some doors were dressed head to toe in book covers, others chose quotes from favourite books, whilst others offered a vocab competitions.
Staff and students also got in the spirit by dressing up as book characters. During tutor time, students were shown a World Book Day video about the book Being an Ally: Real Talk about showing up, Screwing up, and Trying Again. This tied in well with this year’s Theme of ‘your’ World Book Day and was followed by a special quiz. An event was also held in the Library where students were treated to sweets and cake with a chance to win even more prizes by designing a bookmark and/or writing a postcard to a book.
GREAT BEDWYN C OF E SCHOOL
For World Book Day, the children were treated to a visit from a historic car belonging to Phil, the school’s minibus driver who came dressed as Caractacus Potts (from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang).
LAMBOURN PRIMARY SCHOOL
On World Book Day, the Lambourn team were delighted to see so many children and staff dressing up as their favourite book character with the showing off of outfits proving one of many highlights of the day! There were lots of activities including: Share a story, book swap, testing book knowledge and Read, Read and Read some more!
Year 3 were also treated to a Razzamataz Newbury Matilda workshop where they experienced a one-hour musical theatre workshop learning a short section from the hit book and musical. They had fun and energetic warm up games; children had the opportunity to play a character and deliver a short section of script. There was singing and dancing to the catchy song ‘Revolting Children’ and the chance to perform to their classmates.
OARE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Oare had a busy and fun time celebrating World Book Day with a vocabulary parade, a visiting author on Zoom, designing National Book Tokens which have been entered into the World Book Day competition, plus a book fairy swap with good reads hidden all over school for the children to find.
OGBOURNE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Ogbourne had a great day; it welcomed three very special guests to the school. The children were most excited to meet Scooter (the UK’s only surf therapy dog). He was a very clever and calm dog and not at all phased by being in front of such a crowd all morning. Kirstie, his owner and co-writer of the book ‘Scooter the surf therapy dog finds his forever home’, read the children Scooter’s story… of his rescue and how he helped her and continues to help many adults and children that he accompanies on the surf board. She delivered a beautiful message for everyone.
The school was then enthralled by his illustrator Alex, who gave general illustrating tips, including how to draw Scooter himself. The key to a good illustration it would seem is to read, to look, to look harder and to practise! The children all dressed up in fabulous costumes and also brought into school some amazing cakes based on books and characters.
